July News from the Minster

The Building

The building is looking at its splendid  best now, with all signs of the previous hard work vanished and the repairers having a breathing space. Why don’t you visit and feel the peace and tranquility for yourself? You can admire the wonderful windows from all ages, the ancient font and the brick and stone ceiling in the chancel, lovingly restored in the Victorian age to a very old pattern. Now is a great time to visit, there are many small items for sale to take home as souvenirs and you could also join the Friends of Stow, information available,  and be connected to this lovely place and the good people who work to make it special. The best way however to appreciate the building is to worship in it, then the prayers of the ages and the goodwill of the saints of the past can become a felt reality.  This is true whether you just sit in the peaceful stillness alone  or in company or join in one of our regular services, details of which are found on the Noticeboard or our Website. You will  always be very welcome to join us on a Sunday if you wish and there is usually a very good cup of tea or coffee afterwards and, during school terms, a supervised Sunday School for the young ones.

The Friends

The Friends of Stow Minster are growing and the excitement of the Official Launch has been replaced by the interest of the first Programme of Events.  Dr David Stocker was our first invited guest speaker in our Inaugural Lecture Series. One of the most eminent historians and a Vice-president of the Friends, he presented some controversial ideas about the origins of Stow Minster to an appreciative audience.

The next social event on the church calendar is the hospital Band Concert on 4th July, advertised elsewhere, to which all the Friends are also invited, one of the best bands in Lincolnshire in our beautiful setting with great acoustics, well worth a visit.

However the next Friends event, to which the whole local community is invited,  is our Sunday Afternoon Fun,  please note the change of date to 3rd August for this great event.

Press Releases

Stow Minster voted in top five tourist attractions in West Lindsey by the general public in the Pride of Place Awards.

It is amazing that this building is so greatly loved within the Community and thanks must go to all who work so hard to keep the place open to the public during daytime hours.

As the building is so convenient for an excellent local inn it does make a most pleasant days excursion, particularly when combined with the most hidden gem of Lincolnshire, the Restoration Church of St Edith's Coates. This is hidden in a working farm and can be found a mile or so away, off the Ingham Road from Stow.
